MARLBORO COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — Marlboro County High School students were dismissed early Wednesday afternoon “as a safety precaution” and the district said it will move to e-learning for the remainder of the week.

The district sent an email to parents saying that students would be released to go home at 2:30 p.m. All after school activities have also been cancelled for the day.

News13 reached out to the Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office for more information, but has not heard back.

Marlboro County Superintendent Helena Tillar sent out an update later Wednesday to parents:

“Please be advised that Marlboro County High School will transition to e-learning for tomorrow, September 19th, and Friday, September 20th, 2024.

This decision has been made with the utmost consideration for the safety and well-being of our students, faculty, and staff. Recent events in the community have underscored the importance of proactive measures to ensure a secure learning environment.

We understand that this sudden change may cause some inconvenience, and we apologize for any disruption to your family’s routines. However; the safety and security of our school community remain our highest priority.

During these e-learning days, students should follow their regular class schedules and access instruction and assignments through the provided online platforms.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we navigate these challenging circumstances. The resilience and strength of our community will guide us through.

The safety of our students, faculty, and staff is paramount. We are committed to protecting and defending our school community.

Thank you for your support and understanding.”
