DARLINGTON COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — A South Carolina man has been arrested after stealing and reselling a dump trailer and a tractor, the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office said.

Michael Gainey, of Bishopville, was arrested Sept. 10 and accused of two different instances of receiving and selling stolen goods, reports said.

According to reports, Gainey received a stolen black dump trailer on Aug. 22 in the Society Hill area. He then sold the trailer for $1,000. He is charged with receiving stolen goods and obtaining a signature under false pretenses.

In a second incident on Aug. 26, Gainey stole a 2021 John Deere 4044M tractor, trailer, front end loader, and box blade valued at $44,500 in the Timmonsville area, reports said. Gainey then sold the tractor in the Hartsville area, knowing that it was stolen.

He was charged with grand larceny and obtaining a signature under false pretenses for this incident.

Gainey is being held in the W. Glenn Campbell Detention Center on a $50,000 bond.
