ROBESON COUNTY, N.C. (WBTW) — Two teenagers are facing charges in connection with recent school threats, the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office said.

A 14-year-old Red Springs Middle School student and a 13-year-old Community in Schools student are facing charges.

Robeson County deputies were contacted Monday about the Red Springs threat and started following up on information with the help of the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations Behavioral Threat Assessment Unit.

During the investigation, authorities identified and located a person at their residence, according to the sheriff’s office. A cell phone and “other evidence” were seized during a search of the residence.

Then, on Wednesday, deputies received information about a social media threat to bring a weapon to school. Robeson County deputies and SBI investigators identified the student and seized the phone used during the threat. Pembroke police also assisted.

“To those that think making threats towards others and later saying it was all a joke, rest assured we don’t see it that way,” Sheriff Burnis Wilkins said. “You will be held responsible for your actions and for that, there are consequences. You will be arrested and charged accordingly.”

Wilkins said violence and threats of violence will not be tolerated.

“I urge parents and guardians to speak to your children and discuss repercussions associated with such acts,” he said. “You must take action and monitor your children’s behavior, social media platforms, friends, after-school activities and so-on.”
