MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCBD) — A woman is recovering after being rescued from a sailboat in the Wando River amid Tropical Storm Helene early Friday morning.

The boat was reportedly pushed into the Highway 41 bridge as heavy rain and gusty winds moved through the area, becoming pinned.

Crews were able to rescue the woman from the boat where she lives. She is okay, officials said.

Another person was also onboard but refused to leave the vessel despite repeated attempts by first responders.

Several agencies, including the Mount Pleasant Fire Department, responded to the scene.
