MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — Myrtle Beach city officials say Helene did not have as big of an impact here as it did in the Upstate, but it still felt its impacts.

News13 received reports of erosion at Withers Swash Park, high waters, and debris.

The storm left minimal damage to the Market Common area. Marketing Coordinator Kirsten Camp said they’re lucky to have only seen batches of rain and strong winds.

The center of The Market Common was filled with large puddles and scattered debris and leaves.

“We didn’t have any issues with power, our retailers up above the retail center, or any power issues with any of our businesses,” Camp said. “I do know some of them delayed opening, most of them delayed until noon. A few opened first thing at 10 a.m.”

Camp said as of Friday afternoon, they haven’t gotten any reports of resident power outages. She said the weather got a little scary Friday morning when hearing strong winds and seeing heavy rain, but luckily, there were no major impacts.

However, because of storm impacts, a local event had to be postponed.

“We’re looking to move it to next Friday at the same time. Everything passed and the weather is looking good for this evening,” she said. “Unfortunately, the conditions of the park are wet, branches are down, and people going to be wanting to watch the movie on blankets, so, it’s just not ideal for the event.”

Camp said she and her team will be working diligently to get the center cleaned back up.
