MARION, S.C. (WBTW) — A Marion man was arrested Sunday for allegedly intentionally setting fire to a building with someone sleeping inside it in September 2023, police said.

Police said Major Lee Cross Jr. started a fire at a building in the 500 block of West Liberty Street on Sept. 28, 2023, and then barricaded the doors to prevent the victim from escaping. The person managed to escape by breaking some glass.

He is charged with attempted murder, first-degree arson, kidnapping and three counts of third-degree assault and battery. He is being held without bond at the Marion County Detention Center.
