HARTSVILLE, S.C. (WBTW) — Duke Energy plans to test 59 outdoor warning sirens next week at the Robeson Nuclear Plant in Hartsville, a news release said.

The sirens will be tested at full volume for three minutes between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Oct. 9. Some sirens may be tested more than once to make sure they are functioning properly, the utility said.

This testing is done in cooperation with emergency officials in Darlington, Chesterfield, and Lee counties. No public action is required.

Local radio and television stations will not interrupt programming during the test, the utility said. In the event of a real emergency, the stations would broadcast an Emergency Alert System message with instructions to the public.
