Photos show glimpse into havoc Helene wreaked on western North Carolina

MORGANTON, N.C. (WBTW) — Photos captured Wednesday of Morganton, North Carolina, by a News13 meteorologist give a better glimpse into the havoc Hurricane Helene wreaked in the area last week.

News13 meteorologist Scotty Powell captured photos of his hometown on Wednesday, showing just how bad the damage in the area is.

“Made it back home in Morganton today to check on family and friends. Thank the Lord everyone is OK and damage-free,” Powell wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “There is a LOT of people who have lost everything and are suffering. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers. Flood waters are powerful.”

Helene has claimed the lives of nearly 180 people across six states, the Associated Press said Wednesday.
