NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — A North Myrtle Beach woman arrested Friday on tax evasion charges allegedly owes the state Department of Revenue nearly $150,000.

Jennifer Lyn Josey, 54, is charged with six counts of failure to file state income tax returns, failure to pay taxes, and one count of tax evasion, the SCDOR said in a news release. She was taken to the J. Reuben Long Detention Center to await a bond hearing.

Josey had state taxable income of $3.9 million between 2017 and 2023, according to arrest warrants. In 2020, she reported taxable income of $220,760, but an investigation showed her actual taxable income was more than $431,000.

Josey allegedly claimed deductions, expenses, and a business loss that she was not entitled to. The arrest warrants said that Josey evaded $9,470 in taxes. Overall, she owes $144,954.

If convicted, Josey could face up to a year in prison and/or a fine of $10,000 for each count of failing to file returns and pay taxes. She could also face five years in prison and/or a fine of $10,000 for the tax evasion charge.
