MARION, S.C. (WBTW) — A person died after being found on the front porch of a Pickens Street home with a gunshot wound to the chest, Marion police said on Saturday.

Authorities said the victim was found about 11:40 p.m. on Friday in the 200 block “laying unconscious on the front porch of a residence with an apparent gunshot wound to his upper torso.”

The person was transported to Medical University of South Carolina in Marion, where they later died. Police believe the victim was walking west on Pickens Street when they were struck by a bullet.

Officials did not immediately release the person’s name and the incident remains under investigation. Anyone with knowledge is asked to call the Marion Police Department at (843) 423-8616.
