SURFSIDE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW)– Surfside Drive was closed down Saturday for the annual Surfside Beach Fall Family Festival.

There was live music, dancing, food trucks, a kid zone, arts and crafts vendors, and best of all — an apple pie baking contest in which News13 meteorologist Scotty Powell was one of the judges.

Aimee Montes took home the top prize. She and her husband traveled to Asheville, North Carolina, taking supplies to those devasted by Helene. While there, they stopped by Sky Top Orchard to pick ingredients for their pie.

“We went and visited everyone and tried to help out what we can,” she said. “Then, we brought our apples back, made our own caramel and our own crust, and just put the love into it,” she said. “It was for a good cause. We wanted to bring a little bit of that down here too.”

Montes said this was their first competition.
