COLUMBIA, SC (WBTW) – The South Carolina High School League voted Tuesday morning to extend the fall sports season by one additional week due to the effects of Hurricane Helene in the Upstate and Midlands.

For the high school football season, this means the playoffs will begin on Nov. 15 and run for five weeks. The state finals will now be played from Dec. 12-14 at South Carolina State in Orangeburg.

This won’t affect many teams in our area, but several will now have an additional week off or two before the playoffs start.

SCHSL Commissioner Jerome Singleton stated this extra week should give schools in the Western portion of the time time to reschedule and readjust their fall sports seasons.

In addition to those changes, the annual Touchstone Energy Cooperatives Bowl (North/South All-Star football game) in Myrtle Beach has been changed and will be played at noon on Dec. 21 at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium. The 2024 Mr. Football award winner will be announced at halftime as well.

The annual Shrine Bowl, which pits the best from North Carolina against South Carolina, in high school football will be played at 2 p.m. Dec. 21 in Spartanburg.
