HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — Horry County authorities arrested a Marlboro County man on more than a dozen charges Wednesday after a report of a shooting, a chase in a stolen vehicle and a fight that broke an officer’s hand, according to police records.

Nyshawn Miles, 21, of Wallace, was arrested in the Ayrnor area after a high-speed chase through Myrtle Beach and Conway that ended with him getting out of his vehicle and running from police, an incident report said.

Officers were notified about a shooting that happened in Myrtle Beach in which a suspect was driving a Dodge Challenger, the report said. Miles was seen later at the intersection of Robert Grissom Parkway and 44th Avenue N. driving a gray Dodge Challenger.

The report said that the officer could not check the license plate number on the vehicle because of a dark covering, so officers tried to pull Miles over. Miles made a U-turn to go south, and then another to go back north, driving over 100 mph during a chase.

Officers lost sight of Miles until he was seen again in Conway, where a second pursuit began, the report said. At the end of the chase, Miles was pulled over and ran from the police, leaving another man and a child, whose car seat had flipped over during the pursuit, in the car.

Police arrested Miles after he got into a fight with a responding officer, where he broke the officer’s hand, documents show. The other man in the car, Jamire Bethea, 20, of Florence was also arrested on a drug possession charge because of the 161 grams of marijuana that were found in the Charger.

Bethea was released Thursday on bond, according to online jail records. The child in the vehicle was placed in the custody of the state Department of Social Services.

During the investigation and search of the stolen vehicle, officers found multiple cloned vehicle keys, the report said.

“These car keys are cloned via a Pro Pad key FOB remote programmer and used to steal vehicles,” the report said.

Miles is charged with reckless driving, operating a vehicle with an incorrectly displayed license plate, child endangerment, failure to stop for a blue light, possession of a stolen vehicle, resisting arrest, assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, and six other theft and drug offenses.

Miles remained in the J. Reuben Long Detention Center as of Friday afternoon.
