Florence County man accused of holding girlfriend at motel, threatening to kill her

FLORENCE COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — A 32-year-old man is facing attempted murder and other charges after allegedly threatening to kill his girlfriend and pointing a gun at her head at a motel, the Florence County Sheriff’s Office said.

Sevren Godbolt of Florence was arrested Thursday and charged with attempted murder, kidnapping, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. He was booked into the Florence County Detention Center where he remains without bond.

Deputies responded Thursday to the Florence Express Inn on TV Road for a call from a third party about a person being held against their will, the sheriff’s office said. When they arrived, they heard movement inside the room, but no one came to the door.

Deputies later entered the room where they found the woman, who said her boyfriend had threatened to kill her and would not allow her to leave, according to the sheriff’s office. Godbolt was barricaded in the bathroom at the time but was taken into custody shortly after.

Godbolt allegedly pointed a gun at the woman’s head and put his hand over her mouth to prevent her from contacting law enforcement, according to the sheriff’s office. He is also accused of hitting her in the head with the gun and using a table to block the doorway.

At the time of his arrest, the sheriff’s office said Godbolt had outstanding warrants for a probation violation and was also wanted in Georgia.
