PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. (WBTW) — The body of a woman reported missing Thursday afternoon in the ocean in Pawleys Island has been recovered, according to the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office.

A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter spotted the woman, and a Midway Fire Rescue jet ski team recovered the body after a 90-minute search, the sheriff’s office said. The Georgetown County coroner was headed to the scene late Thursday afternoon.

A sheriff’s office Marine Unit assisted in the search, along with Pawleys Island police, which deployed a jet ski. The sheriff’s office and Midway Fire Rescue also used drones to help during the search.

The search began after a man was helped from the surf and told Pawleys Island police that he had been in the water with the woman, deputies said. The woman is believed to be in her early 20s.

No additional information was immediately available. Count on News13 for updates.
