NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW)– It was a wave of purple at the North Myrtle Beach Sports Complex, as hundreds took a stand against domestic violence.

The fourth annual Domestic Violence Walk raises awareness and funds for victims. This year’s theme was “what a difference a mile makes.”

“We have survivor speakers and that’s important to raise awareness,” said event chairwoman Kim Allen. “People may not be aware of it, but its one in three women and one in four men and it trickles down to our children. It’s very important that we have information out here so people know where to turn to if they need it.”

There was various information tables at the event. And new this year– after the walk, there was a festival.

“This is our first time having all these vendors and it has been a great success,” said North Myrtle Beach Women’s Club President Kathy Haegan. We are so appreciative of all the people that have come out today to support this cause of domestic violence because awareness is needed in this county and in this state.”

    The event was from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“I’m just happy they could all come out today,” said event co-chairwoman Valerie Clark. “We have a lot of people from Little River, North Myrtle Beach, Myrtle Beach, just the surrounding areas as far as Loris.”
