    UPDATE: The roadway has reopened.

CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – Crews are working to clear a large tree that fell over a Johns Island roadway on Thursday.

The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office said Bohicket Road near Clam Digger Couty is closed to traffic.

“It is larger than fire units can handle. SC DOT has been notified,” said officials with St. Johns Fire District.

CCSO added that the South Carolina Department of Transportation was working to clear the fallen tree. However, an estimated time for the roadway to reopen was not provided.

Traffic to Kiawah Island will be diverted on Edenvale Road and traffic off Kiawah Island will be diverted on River Road.
