Shelters open in Dorchester and Berkeley counties amid flash flooding

DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – Shelters are open in Dorchester and Berkeley counties amid flash flooding associated with heavy rain and lingering impacts from Tropical Storm Debby.

St. George Middle School in Dorchester County and Berkeley Middle School are both accepting people in need of shelter.

People should bring bedding and comfort items, extra clothes, personal hygiene items, food, water, and child care items.

“Dorchester County officials urge residents to prioritize their personal family plans and take all necessary precautions. If implementing your plan is not feasible and your home is unsafe, please use the St. George Middle School Shelter,” officials with the county said.

The St. George shelter is located at 600 Minus Street and the Berkeley Middle shelter is located at 320 N Live Oak Drive in Moncks Corner.
