MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WCBD) – Santee Cooper plans to resume controlled spill at the Santee Dam on Friday due to increased rainfall in the Santee Cooper Lake system.

Officials say the flow will begin at a rate of 20,000 cubic feet of water per second into the Santee River to keep lake levels below the FERC operating maximum elevation. This operation will continue until further notice, Santee Copper reports.

According to Santee Cooper, they will continue to monitor rainfall projections and inflows into the Santee Cooper Lake system.

Officials reassure residents that Santee Cooper’s dams and dikes are secure and spilling is normal in periods of increased inflows into the lakes.
