COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – Nonprofit organizations working to help in Colleton County after historic flooding can apply for a disaster relief grant.

Coastal Community Foundation, which is based in North Charleston, said grants of up to $5,000 will focus on organizations providing emergency aid like supplying food, water, shelter, and medical support, as well as those supporting recovery efforts like rebuilding homes, infrastructure, and community services to restore normalcy.

Organizations must be a registered 501(c)3 serving Colleton County to apply.

“After speaking with our community partners in Colleton County, we determined the storm’s impact was significant enough to activate our disaster response grantmaking,” said Kerri Forrest, Vice President of Grantmaking and Community Leadership. “Parts of the county saw substantial flooding and hundreds of homes were inaccessible for days. Even as the floodwaters recede, there will be extensive work to be done to repair homes, businesses, and infrastructure.”

Leaders with Coastal Community Foundation said the grants will be reviewed on a rolling basis by a volunteer committee of community members.

“Coastal Community Foundation stands ready to step in when disaster strikes in any part of our nine-county coastal service area,” said President and CEO Darrin Goss Sr. “We work closely with community leaders across the region to ensure nonprofits serving areas with the greatest need get support quickly. We appreciate our network of donors who contribute to build up these funds that we can deploy when necessary. We are still in the early stages of hurricane season and will be prepared if future disaster relief and recovery is needed.”

The funding for these grants comes from CCF’s Disaster Response Fund, Colleton County Fund, and Beaufort Fund.

Anyone who would like to support disaster relief and recovery efforts can donate online . Organizers say 100% of contributions go to disaster relief and recovery grants, with no administrative fees collected by CCF.
