    Olympian Melissa Jefferson to be honored with parade, celebration in Georgetown area

    GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – A homecoming celebration planned for this fall will highlight the achievements of Georgetown native and Olympic athlete Melissa Jefferson .

    Jefferson, 23, earned a gold and bronze medal after competing in track and field during the Paris Olympics over the summer. She received the bronze with a time of 10.92 in the women’s 100m, and later reached the top of the podium with a time of 41.78 during the women’s 4x100m relay just days later.

    A parade celebrating Jefferson and her accolades on Saturday, October 12 in historic Georgetown, to be followed by a social gathering at a recreational facility.

    Organizers say the parade will begin at East Bay Park beginning at 10 a.m. It will step off on Front Street and continue into the downtown area. She will then gather with supporters at Choppee Recreation Center off Choppee Road where she will be honored from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m.

    Jefferson is a graduate of Carvers Bay High School and Coastal Carolina University.
