Residential space project happening along Coleman Boulevard

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCBD)–Queens Court along Coleman Boulevard is getting a revamp, replacing old apartment buildings with new, upgraded duplexes.

The new homes will align with the town’s height restrictions and target rentals for long-term residents.

“What was there were 11 buildings, and what’s coming back is 11 buildings in their duplexes, so there’ll be 22 units there, but before one of those was a short-term rental, which is not great for your quality of life,” said Mayor Will Haynie.

Mount Pleasant Town Councilmember Gary Santos told News 2 that he once lived near Queens Court and is excited to see the area return to life.

“When I lived across the street from there. It was nice, but of course, it’s gone down bad; now that they’ve cleared everything out, I think they have an opportunity to produce a nice product there where people will be able to come to enjoy and live there in a nice clean space,” said Gary Santos.

Mayor Will Haynie said they’re planning to upgrade the landscaping around the area; he said invasive plants had taken over the site, and now the area will feature native plants and carefully selected trees, improving the area’s curb appeal.

“What matters is what is built back that is compatible with our neighborhoods and the town. I’m just looking forward to getting the native trees back along the sidewalk because I’m a real tree-hugger.”

Officials said they are still in the early phase of the project, and more details will be released in the coming weeks.
