BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – A man who was pulled over for driving a defective moped ended up being arrested on drug charges, the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office said.

A deputy was patrolling Harristown Road and Rosewood Drive in St. Stephen when they saw a man operating a moped with no license plate and defective equipment, according to Cpl. Carli Drayton with the sheriff’s office.

The driver, identified as Gary Parks, ditched the moped and took off when the deputy initiated a traffic stop. The deputy then observed a clear plastic bag with crystals that tested positive for methamphetamine.

The bag was 11.58 grams and found where Parks ditched the moped. The deputy also found a glass pipe right next to it. They then conducted a probable cause search and found a handgun under the moped seat, the sheriff’s office said.

Parks was charged with trafficking methamphetamine and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.
