    Coroner IDs 61-year-old man who died while in jail custody

    CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – The coroner’s office identified Wednesday a man who died while in custody at the Charleston County jail.

    George Washington, 61, was taken to Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital on August 30 after he became unresponsive in the jail’s infirmary.

    Washington was pronounced dead at the hospital just before 8 a.m., according to the Charleston County Coroner’s Office.

    They said his cause of death is pending investigation.

    The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is investigating the death.
