CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD)—Police are searching the area for a suspect after a West Ashley shooting that left one person injured Wednesday night.

Charleston Police said they responded to an apartment complex for reports of a shooting at the Harper Place at Bees Ferry apartments on Coastal Grass Way. One person was taken to the hospital with injuries as a result of the shooting.

Sgt. Chris Stinson said it stemmed from an altercation between adult family members. The shooting was not related to a nearby high school event.

Officers are currently searching the woods near West Ashley High School for the suspect. Attendees of a high school event were moved inside the school out of an abundance of caution.

No students were injured or involved in the incident, police said.
