BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – Troopers are looking for vehicles that hit a pedestrian lying in a roadway last weekend and continued driving from the scene.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol said a known vehicle struck a pedestrian around 3:40 a.m. Sunday. After the impact with the vehicle, the pedestrian came to rest in the roadway on Goose Creek Road near Snake Road.

Troopers say the body was then run over by other unknown vehicles after the initial impact.

Highway Patrol officials say while the make and model of the vehicles that left the scene after hitting the body are unknown, the vehicles are believed to have lower front-end damage or damage to the undercarriage because of the crash.

The vehicles then continued north on Goose Creek Road toward Redbank Road after the crash.

The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office identified the pedestrian as 60-year-old Jerome Barnett of Goose Creek.

Anyone with information on the identity of those responsible is asked to submit an anonymous tip by calling the South Carolina Highway Patrol at 843-953-6010 or 1-800-768-1501.
