JAMES ISLAND, S.C. (WCBD)- The search for a new fire chief is underway on James Island.

In a Sept. 5 social media post, the James Island Public Service District (JIPSD) said it was looking to hire a “dedicated and experienced” chief to lead the fire department.

“As Fire Chief, you’ll work closely with the District Manager, using your expertise and independent judgment to ensure the safety of our community,” the post read.

The chief also serves as the Director of Emergency Management and oversees emergency preparedness and response efforts, according to JIPSD.

The opening comes after the former chief, Thomas Glick, was arrested for driving under the influence on the Isle of Palms in May. He is no longer with the department.

The department operates four stations on the island, serving more than 10,000 homes and businesses.

Those interested in applying for the position should send a cover letter, resume, and three professional references to hr@jipsd.org.

To serve as chief, candidates must be at least 18 years old and meet certain minimum education and training requirements. More information can be found on JIPSD’s job posting website .
