CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – A second person has died following a Sunday morning house fire in the West Ashley area.

Officers with the Charleston Police Department responded to a home on Seabago Drive around 10 a.m. where they joined firefighters conducting rescue efforts.

Detectives determined the fire was intentionally by the suspect, who was found dead at the scene. A victim – who is a relative of the suspect – was taken to a local hospital where they later died.

“No one else was believed to be inside the residence at the time of the fire,” said Sgt. Chris Stinson with the Charleston Police Department.

The Charleston County Coroner’s Office has not yet released their identity.

Detectives and fire marshals are investigating. Anyone with information regarding the fire is encouraged to contact the Charleston Police Department at 843-720-2422 and ask for the on-duty Central Detective, or email speaktocpd@charleston-sc.gov.
