CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Forecasters are monitoring an area of low pressure off the southeastern United States that could form over the weekend.

The National Weather Service in Charleston said the non-tropical area has a 20% chance of developing tropical or subtropical characteristics as it moves toward the Carolinas early next week.

The National Hurricane Center said the area of low pressure is a “few hundred miles” off the southeastern U.S. coastline.
