DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – A woman has died following a deadly head-on crash in Summerville that involved an intoxicated driver.

Officers with the Summerville Police Department responded to the intersection of Golf Road and South Main Street on Thursday evening for a crash with two entrapped people.

An investigation determined the driver of an SUV crossed over the yellow line and crashed head-on into a sedan. Both drivers were taken to the hospital for treatment.

The driver of the sedan later died. Dorchester County Coroner Paul Brouthers identified the victim as 62-year-old Kathy Cole of Ladson.

Tristan Haynes, who police said was driving the SUV, remains hospitalized and has been charged with felony DUI resulting in death.

Haynes will be booked into the Dorchester County Detention Center once they are discharged from the hospital.

Coroner Brouthers said Cole will undergo an autopsy at the Medical University of South Carolina next week.

The Summerville Police Department and Dorchester County Coroner’s Office are investigating.
