High tides and possible flooding expected in Georgetown and Charleston Sunday night

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Coastal areas may experience flooding Sunday night due to an area of low pressure affecting the region, with two separate advisories posted for Georgetown and Charleston.

Georgetown County Emergency Management said residents should be aware of a Coastal Flood Advisory along the immediate coastline, effective from 4 to 8 p.m. Up to one foot of flooding above ground level is expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. Residents are urged to exercise caution and avoid driving through floodwaters.

Meanwhile, the City of Charleston has also warned of potential flooding, with a high tide of 7.7 feet expected at 6:31 p.m. Light rain and gusty winds could accompany the tide. Drivers are reminded not to navigate flooded streets or bypass barricades.

While both areas are at risk for flooding, these advisories apply to separate locations, so residents should be mindful of local conditions and warnings.
