    Ridgeville man arrested for assaults on minors in Cane Bay community

    BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Ridgeville man following a thorough investigation into assaults on juveniles in the Cane Bay area.

    Antjuan Xavier Reed, 24, has been charged with Assault and Battery first degree, Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Minor second degree, Kidnapping, and Assault and Battery third degree.

    Reed was charged after an extensive investigation into assaults from November and December of 2023 on the Cane Bay Trails located in Berkeley County.

    According to Berkeley County deputies, the investigation included hours of surveillance and reviewing forensic evidence.

    Officials say detectives had assistance from the FBI in Charleston, Columbia and Baltimore as well as SLED.

    “I requested assistance from the FBI and SLED in order to identify the suspect from the assaults that occurred in Cane Bay last year.” Berkeley County Sheriff Duane Lewis stated. “Detectives have been working diligently to identify and locate the man responsible and to bring him to justice. I am very proud of the hard work that went into this case that resulted in the offender being charged.”

    Authorities report the assaults Reed was arrested for took place on November 27, 2023, and December 2, 2023.

    Reed is currently being held at the Hill-Finklea Detention Center.
