CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – A federal grand jury has indicted two Lowcountry men, Deangelo Montrel Lamont Simmons, 31, of Moncks Corner, and Raynard Dewayne Williams, 36, of North Charleston, for their alleged roles in a drug trafficking conspiracy. Both men are accused of conspiring to possess and distribute over five kilograms of cocaine.

If convicted, Simmons and Williams could each face up to 25 years in prison and fines as high as $20 million. Both men are currently being held in custody as they await trial.

The charges are the result of a large-scale investigation conducted by multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), and several local police and sheriff’s departments from the Charleston area.

U.S. Attorney Adair F. Boroughs emphasized that the charges are only accusations at this stage and that the defendants are considered innocent until proven guilty in court.
