BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – State police on Thursday charged a former Berkeley County detention deputy with assault and battery and misconduct in office.

The incident happened last May while the deputy, Aisha Zakiya Davis, was employed at the Hill-Finklea Detention Center.

According to affidavits released by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, Davis is accused of stomping a victim in his groin area several times, which caused nonconsensual touching of the victim’s private parts.

Documents further state the former deputy also struck the victim with a closed fist while they were restrained in handcuffs.

The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office asked SLED to investigate the matter.

“When we became aware of the allegations, I immediately contacted SLED to investigate. SLED’s case findings resulted in a former Detention Deputy facing charges,” said Berkeley County Sheriff Duane Lewis. “We expect all employees to uphold their oath and the law.”

Davis is charged with second-degree assault and battery and misconduct in office and booked into the Berkeley County Detention Center.

Glad he was arrested. Hopefully anybody else that he mistreated repays the favor while he's in the pokey.
