DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – Members of the Dorchester County Fire Rescue Swift Water Rescue Team deployed to the Upstate on Thursday afternoon.

The team, made up of firefighters and paramedics from within the county, is headed to Anderson County ahead of Hurricane Helene to assist with recovery efforts.

While the major hurricane will not make direct landfall in South Carolina, the state will be impacted by heavy rainfall, strong winds, and isolated tornadoes through Friday. The storm is expected to strike Florida’s Big Bend before moving north through Georgia.

South Carolina’s Upstate could see major impacts from the storm.

“We are grateful for the support Anderson County provided us during Tropical Storm Debby, and now we’re proud to return the favor by offering assistance during their time of need,” said Dorchester County officials. “Safe travels to our team as they head out to serve!”
