Gov. McMaster to provide update on SC’s response to Hurricane Helene

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WCBD) – Governor Henry McMaster will provide an update Monday on the state’s response to Hurricane Helene and recovery efforts.

The update comes as thousands of utility crews are working around the clock to make repairs to powerlines and restore power to the more than 90,000 South Carolinians still in the dark after the storm lashed the state last week.

Public safety officials reported earlier in the day that nearly 30 people have died in South Carolina in the wake of the storm.

Gov. McMaster’s briefing will likely discuss efforts to restore power, clear roadways, and provide essentials to communities in need.

The briefing is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at the South Carolina Emergency Operations Center. McMaster will be joined by state emergency management officials.
