NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – A new department store is holding its grand opening in North Charleston on Thursday, October 3.

Hamrick’s is scheduled to open its doors at 9 a.m., officials say the first 100 customers will receive a free gift.

“I think 12 years since our store closed it was in North Charleston and we have been looking for the right location and we are back and so excited,” said Jennifer Harrington, Chief Merchandising Officer on an appearance on News 2’s Living Local.

If you have not been to a Hamrick’s before, you might wonder what can be found there. Officials with Hamricks say they have a little bit of everything for everyone in the family.

The store includes women’s, children’s, and men’s apparel, a large home section, and a grand shoe department.

Some may not know that Hamrick’s is a local family-owned business from Gaffney South Carolina. In fact, in 2025 Hamrick’s is celebrating its 80th anniversary with 21 stores open.

“I always tell a funny story that people think we’re the store your grandmother shops in,” said Harrington.

The new store will also feature a new section, ‘The Boutique’, which will carry a trendy set of apparel that would normally be seen at a boutique – but for a cheaper price.

Compared to other department stores, officials with Hamrick’s say their prices are about 70% off what the other department stores charge.

“We’re usually better than the TJ Maxx, the HomeGoods, Ross, we compete with everyone – and we try to be the best price that’s out there,” Harrington added.

Hamrick’s is located at 7800 Rivers Avenue.
