SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCBD) – Summerville’s senior starting quarterback Jaden Cummings is a leader on the field and in the classroom.

“He holds himself to a really high standard. And so other kids see that, and other kids admire that, and his teammates admire that,” said Summerville HS Assistant Principal Callie Neal.

A hard worker not just in football. Cummins boasts a 4.8 GPA.

“Being a quarterback, I feel like one of the major things is IQ and your mindset. So, I just try and take my mindset I have on the field to everything in the classroom and off the field,” Cummings said.

Whether finding an open receiver or checking to a different play, Jaden’s intelligence helps with his decision making on the gridiron.

“The classes I take, a lot of times your timed on your tests and everything so you have to think faster and just go with your gut.”

Having already committed to play in college at Dartmouth. Cummins will soon trade in the Flowertown in the Pines for the Ivy League.

“All the alums they’re all in big corporations, they’re the CEO’s, they’re the owners of the big pro teams,” said Cummings. “And graduating from Dartmouth they get you internships with them. And just having the Dartmouth degree under your name just takes your resume to the next level.”

The All-State and All-Region performer’s current list of accolades includes an 80 percent completion percentage, 19 passing touchdowns to just one interception, and another six scores on the ground.

Jaden Cummings is locked in on the field and in the classroom.

“With Jaden, a lot of that comes from within himself. I think a lot of that is thanks to football and his drive, and I can only imagine where he’ll be four years from now.”
