PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. (WCBD) – Emergency crews are responding to an apparent drowning on Pawleys Island.

Officials with the Pawleys Island Police Department said Thursday afternoon that officers were on the north end of the island and asked people to be careful of emergency vehicles on the beach.

The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office said it joined the search for a “missing woman in the ocean” and added that deputies reported a male swimmer was helped from the surf by Pawleys Island PD. The man said a woman was swimming with him.

Pawleys Island Police deployed a jet ski and were joined by drones from the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office and Midway Fire Rescue. The U.S. Coast Guard is en route.
