Prince, is headed back to the big screen over eight years after his shocking death.

The iconic film "Purple Rain", shot in the Twin Cities in 1983 and released the following year, will be shown at Target Center. The showing will take place on July 27, exactly 40 years after the film was originally released in theaters.

The one night will include Prince collaborators who worked both in front of, and behind the cameras on "Purple Rain".

"We are thrilled to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Purple Rain, a film that continues to resonate with audiences worldwide," said Sharon Nelson, eldest sister of Prince. "This event is a heartfelt tribute to Prince's unparalleled talent and the lasting impact of his artistry."

General admission tickets are available for $19.99 (yes, a nod to Prince’s iconic hit song). The price is also tied to Prince's lifelong commitment to creating affordable, accessible opportunities for the community to enjoy his work according to the Nelson.

A limited number of VIP tickets are also available for $199.99. The enhanced VIP experience will includes special reserved seating area, an exclusive event-related gift, unique photo opportunities, a private reception following the film and more.

They'll be decorating Target Center in purple regalia, and attendees will have an opportunity to view historic memorabilia from the Purple Rain era as they enter the venue and make their way to the screening.

While Prince made "Purple Rain" famous across the street at First Avenue, Target Center was a common spot to spot the hometown superstar too. Prince played there four times, and made countless visits there to cheer on two of his favorite teams, the Minnesota Timberwolves, and Minnesota Lynx.

Principal photography for the film took place almost entirely in Minneapolis. The film features many local landmarks, including the Crystal Court of the IDS Center and the First Avenue nightclub.

Of course "Purple Rain" was supported with its soundtrack album of the same name. "When Doves Cry", "Let's Go Crazy", and the title-track "Purple Rain" were all massive hits. The soundtrack is certified 13× Platinum and has sold over 25 million copies worldwide.

The movie grossed $70.3 million worldwide, against its $7.2 million budget and won the Academy Award for Best Original Score.
