Stormy weather in the Twin Cities metro prompted officials at the Minnesota State Fair to delay opening the gates for two hours.

Fair fans were finally allowed in for day six of the Great Minnesota Get-Together at 9:00 a.m.

This cames after severe storms on Monday night canceled a Grandstand concert and shut down the Mighty Midway, although the fair remained open until its usual 11:00 p.m. closing time.

Around the fairgrounds there is damage caused by the storm, with vendors working to fix things up before the gates eventually opened.

"This morning was more wind, I see more branches down," Corn Roast owner Brad Riebar told WCCO radio's Jimmy Erickson. "Fortunately, there was no one on the fairgrounds at the time. That was a blessing."

Parking lots around the fairgrounds and park-and-ride lots that remained closed earlier in the morning also reopened after the delay.

"We got coffee, parking, and decided to wait it out," said Patti Olson, who was there with her family from Oakdale.

And, who knows, they may find that the fairgrounds might be less crowded.

"We're hoping it keeps a lot of people from coming here," Emily Olson said.

This is a developing story that will be updated as more information becomes available.
