The potential for severe storms and thousands and thousands of people at the State Fair is not a winning combination. But, as WCCO's Susie Jones reports, they have a plan.

The Minnesota State Fairgrounds are packed this Thursday afternoon with thousands and thousands of people. What happens if the storm hits the Fair?

There is a plan in place to keep everyone safe according to the State Fair's General Manager, Renee Alexander.

The fairgrounds are geo-fenced, so anyone who is on the fairgrounds will receive that alert," she explains. "So, you know how you can get an amber alert on your phone? And suddenly everyone, their alarm is going off. We can do that. We have the capability to do that here on the fairgrounds so we can notify everybody with a cell phone."

Alexander says there will be police on hand to help people get to some five different storm shelters. If you can't get to one of those five, any building that's near you will allow fairgoers to pop in and get out of the storm.

Speaking of storms, anyone out there Thursday should be on high-alert. There are storms coming into the area late afternoon and into the evening. Some of the storms could pack quite a punch, even with the possibility of tornadoes.
