You know it's special when the Democratic candidate for vice president makes it a big deal.

It would have been better if Tim Walz had been there in person, but WCCO program director Brad Lane was able to handle it with his usual aplomb.

"As a part of their celebration of their 100 years of broadcasting, marking a century of news coverage, and storied history of serving the people of Minnesota, now, therefore, I, Tim Walz (he's not here, I'll take his place), Governor of Minnesota, do hereby proclaim, Friday, August 30th, 2024, as 8-3-0 Day."

    And the crowd roared.

Or, the people at the WCCO radio booth at the state fairground, gave a hoot and holler.

That's because Brad read the proclamation before the gates opened.

When that happened, WCCO listeners flooded in to join the celebration.

Also on the stage, WCCO alumi Eric Eskola, Steve Murphy, Mike Lynch, and, of course, the franchise himself Dave Lee.

Dave retired not too long ago as WCCO's early-morning host, and after recalling lots of memories at the Good Neighbor, returned to the airwaves in Minnesota Hospital, the long-time radio play that filled listeners' homes with laughter.

Legendary flour-maker Washburn Crosby Company took over a dormant radio station and began broadcasting on October 2, 1924.

The station was renamed WCCO, the call letters coming from the company's name.
