They knew there would be no work on Monday.

A small group of Park Tavern employees somehow made it to St. Louis Park, hoping to make sense of a horrifying and deadly night where two were killed when a man drove a car into the bar’s crowded outdoor gathering area.

Some were still sobbing as they embraced, while others brought flowers to lay at a line of 13 chairs that were draped with t-shirts.

The number of chairs is not significant, that’s just how many could be placed in front of the patio.

That’s where it happened on a mild night during the long holiday weekend.

One of the victims was one of their own.

34-year-old Kristina Folkerts had been a server at the tavern for two years and was working the patio when the car came barrelling through.

The other victim was a patron who was an employee at nearby Methodist Hospital, who's name was not released out of respect for family members.

Police took the man who was behind the wheel of that car into custody.

He's identified as 56-year-old Steven Frane Bailey of St. Louis Park, and charges could come as early as Tuesday.

State Patrol investigators were at the scene Monday trying to find out what happened.

"I'm still processing, people died right there," said Nick Sullivan, who was among several people who live in the neighborhood that walked by Monday morning.

"I've been here a lot of times where it's good memories, and this is not a good memory," he said. "Not a good thing."

Police say there is surveillance video showing the car's driver tried to park at the popular Park Tavern restaurant and bowling alley, before ramming the vehicle into the crowded outside dining area.

The incident happened just after 8:00 p.m. Sunday.

Authorities have not yet said if the driver was impaired in any way.

"Such a strange way that it transpired," said . "You almost don't know what to think, other than sadness for the victims."

Police are asking anyone who knows what happened to contact them .
