One man is dead, another injured after a shooting at a south Minneapolis homeless encampment .

It happened early Wednesday morning near 17th Avenue and 25th Street. A man in his 20s was shot to death, while a second man suffered a non life-threatening gunshot to his neck. He is expected to survive.

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara says it's the third shooting at the encampment in recent weeks.

"But it's very clear that the residents from the neighborhood around here, and not just here, different areas in the neighborhood, are just really fed up with the problems associated with encampments," O'Hara says.

O'Hara was part of a community meeting about violence and police reform Wednesday night in south Minneapolis. He says the goal is to clear the encampment once their investigation is complete.

"Residents we heard from saying people from the outside come in, they provide goods and other things that essentially enable people to engage in the drug activity that goes on here, and quite frankly then associated gun violence," O'Hara explained.

There's no word yet on a suspect or motive. The City of Minneapolis is working on new ordinance to deal with the encampments that have been springing up across the city.

Fed up with lack of support for the police from Frey and the Minneapolis city council! Wasteful spending on interrupters that do more criminal organization than anti criminal! Vote these people out ! How many officer short on the roster today?
