Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty is weighing in on the resentencing of a woman accused of luring a Minneapolis realtor to her murder in 2019.

Elsa Segura was originally sentenced to life in prison for aiding in the murder of real estate agent Monique Baugh in 2019 but the Minnesota Supreme Court overturned her conviction in January citing "insufficient evidence".

She has now pleaded guilty to kidnapping and has been sentenced to 20 years in prison. Moriarty says she’s glad the case didn’t go back to trial this time.

"I want to acknowledge how difficult having this case reopened by the Minnesota Supreme Court has been for the Baugh family," says Moriarty. "Part of our team's reason for settling this case without trial is to prevent that from happening again."

In March, Minnesota's Supreme Court also revered the conviction of Lyndon Wiggins, who was allegedly the mastermind behind the plot to kidnap and kill Baugh. He will be retried in the coming months.

Please let this family rest and stop reopening cases that have already been sentenced. Especially these fuckers who killed this innocent woman who had nothing to die with what her man had going on. This should have never happened and it pisses me off that something like this could happen. When I heard about this it brought tears to my eyes and I just broke down and started praying to God for this family and for them to get justice.
