A Minnesota man serving a life sentence for murder could soon see that sentence reduced.

"We are here today to announce that we are seeking the resentencing of Jerome Nunn," said Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty.

Jerome Nunn's been in prison nearly 30 years. He was sentenced to life for the murder of Abuel Poe and attempted murder of John Holmes in Minneapolis.

Moriarty is using a state law passed last year allowing prosecutor-initiated sentence review.

"We are asking the court to reduce Mr. Nunn's sentence to time served because he has turned his life around in a manner that is nothing short of remarkable," claims Moriarty.

In prison, Nunn earned his GED, three Associate Degrees and has even become an ordained minister.

"Each day, I'm accountable for my actions, to my community, to my victims and to my family," Nunn said. "Every day, I get up to make a difference."

Danielle Jones, the mother of Abduel Poe, supports Nunn's reduced sentence and has been advocating for his release the past ten years.

Moriarty says Nunn's turned not only his life around, but the lives of others as well.

"He earned dozens of certificates from the Department of Corrections and completed extensive programming," she says. "He is now a community leader and mentor inside and outside of prison walls."

"I'm here today to continue forward paying atonement for my actions," Nunn explained Wednesday. "Always mindful of the hurt I have caused the community, but always mindful. I can help heal the community too."

it doesn't matter his sentence was life in prison, he comes home when his victims co.e home. Moriarty job is not to get people out of prison. if she does, then if he commits a new crime, she should do the time
