    Central Illinois school districts prepare for eclipse

    CENTRAL ILLINOIS (WCIA) — Several schools across central and southern Illinois are having special days of class on Monday due to the eclipse.

    Nine eclipse events in downstate Illinois

    Urbana

    Urbana School District told WCIA that they bought eclipse glasses for students, and many teachers and schools are planning activities for their students.

    Champaign

    The Champaign School district is also dismissing students in the Young Adult Program at the time of the eclipse. They have instructed the students with special needs to not look at the sun, but to ensure their safety, are giving students the eclipse glasses to wear as they leave the school building and ride the bus home.

    Tuscola

    Additionally, Tuscola Community High School announced in an email to parents the school has arranged a 25-minute viewing on the football field for Monday. All students and staff will have eclipse glasses, and science teacher Mr. Johnson will provide an educational lesson on what students and staff are viewing.

    Where can I get solar eclipse glasses?

    Mattoon

    Mattoon Schools said on social media students and staff will have the opportunity to view the partial eclipse. Many teachers incorporated the science into the solar eclipse into their lesson plans this week.

    Oakwood

    Oakwood School District announced in a email to parents their students will have “indoor learning activities” for the day but will not be let outside.

    Effingham

    As the city is in the path of totality, Effingham CUSD 40 has closed schools for the day. The school district has also posted on social media all grounds will be closed due to safety and liability concerns.
