LE ROY, Ill. (WCIA) — It can be challenging for people who have mobility issues to enjoy themselves at a park. That’s why Le Roy Elementary School is adding a new accessible playground for the community.

The playground will be built behind the school near the baseball field and will be wheelchair accessible with multiple access points and sensory opportunities.

Le Roy Education Advancement Foundation or, LEAF, donated $100,000 to the district. School staff says it’s been something they’ve been planning for several years.

“For child should be able to actually play with the kids and be on the equipment, it’s something that’s really rare to find,” said parent Alisa Sorenson. “And here at Le Roy, them putting in this new accessible playground is going to mean the world to my kids. I can’t wait.”

A community build will take place in June.
