SANGAMON COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — A 25-year-old Springfield man is dead after being hit by a train on Friday night.

Several agencies responded to the scene in the 4100 block of Ostermeier Road — between Chatham and Auburn — just after 9:40 p.m. Union Pacific employees told the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office that one of their freight trains was travelling south when they saw a pedestrian laying on the west side of the tracks. The train was unable to stop before hitting him.
